Greece (2-1) Cote d'Ivoire

Greece vs. Cote d’Ivoire: First Round of 16 for One…or Neither (UPDATE: Penalty Kick Gives Greece The Win)

Can Cote d'Ivoire advance for the first time? Or will it be Greece?

UPDATE: On a stunning penalty kick in the 92 minute of  play, Greece beats Cote d’Ivoire, 2-1. With the victory, Greece advances to the Round of 16, and denies Cote d’Ivoire’s dreams of making it past group play for the first time in the country’s World Cup history.

Previous post:

Greece and Cote d’Ivoire have each been to the World Cup three times – Greece in 1994, 2010, and 2014, and Cote d’Ivoire from 2006 to 2014. But neither has ever made it out of group play. That could change today as the two teams face off at 4 PM ET (8 PM UTC). Cote d’Ivoire is ahead of Greece in the Group C standings, and is the favorite to advance. But in such a close group, it’s possible that either one of these two teams – or group rival Japan – could advance.
